$6500 Home Tax Credit

You can save thousands on the purchase of a new home!

As a result of a special legislation to re-energize the housing market. Congress has now released the new $6,500 Tax Credit eligible for buyers who have previously owned a home for the last 5 years & are planning to purchase a new home.

 New Home Tax Credit at a Glance

● The tax credit is for individuals who are purchasing a new home that have currently owned a home for the last 5 years.

 ● The credit is available for homes purchased after Nov. 6^th, 2009 & before April 30^th, 2010 and is not retroactive prior to the November 6^th signed bill date.

● A qualified residence is defined as detached or attached and will serve as the home owners primary residence.

● Purchasers of new homes will receive up to $6,500 non-refundable tax credit (non-refundable means that the credit will go against a tax liability for your federal taxes.

● The income limitations for single tax payers went up from $75,000 under the old rules to $125,000 under the new plan. Married tax payers income limitations went up from $150,000 to $225,000

● If unmarried individuals buy a home, and only one of the individuals qualifies for the credit based on their income or past home ownership status, the individual who qualifies for the credit can claim the full credit. In the case of married couples, both spouses must qualify for the credit.
